Automatic segmentation of faces using ASM

چکیده

Automatic segmentation of images, means being able to automatically divide an image into parts that can be analysed to give meaning. In segmentation of faces, the goal is to locate the features of the face that describes it shape. These are features like mouth, nose, eyes, eyebrows and jawline. This report describes the implementation and the theory behind a tool that does face segmentation using Active Shape Models. Active Shape Models is a top down approach to segmentation. It uses a general shape as a guideline to locate features in an image. This report contains detailed explanation of Active Shape Models and it's sub components, like Principle Component Analysis and Modes of variation. It also explains how to locate edges in images using gradient magnitude images that are created using high-pass ltering in the spatial or frequency domain.
